Only 50 km separate us from the border with Chile. We will cross through the Futaleufú Pass, admiring the pristine Futaleufú River, Yelcho Lake, and the Yelcho Glacier. From the bridge, we will take one of the best photos of the trip. In Santa Lucía, we will reach the famous Carretera Austral, where we will reach Puyuhuapi, a picturesque town of German immigrants, with a coastline on the fjord. 238 km for the day, with 125 km of good gravel roads.
Near Puyuhuapi, we find the Queulat National Park, home to the hanging Queulat Glacier, one of the best attractions of the trip. We will visit the glacier after a short walk and continue through the Peral slope, home to the Valdivian Rainforest. At its culmination, we will leave the Carretera Austral heading west to the fantastic town of Puerto Cisnes, on the Pacific coast.
Dia Libre.
200 km south of Coyhaique, half on asphalt and half on gravel roads, we reach General Carrera Lake, the second largest in South America after Lake Titicaca. There, in the town of Puerto Tranquilo, we will navigate to one of the wonders of the trip, the Marble Caves. Then, after an additional 80 km of gravel road, we will reach Puerto Bertrand, a small town on the banks of the Baker River, with an incredible turquoise color. We will spend the night in a fantastic cabin complex.
The gravel road offers scenic views of the Baker Canyon, one of the most beautiful landscapes on the road. We will pass through Cochrane and, after 100 km of humid forests, turn west for 20 km until we reach Caleta Tortel, nestled in a fjord and known for its unique feature of having no streets, only walkways. Total of 172 km of gravel roads.
After 150 km of good gravel roads and a small ferry trip, we will reach the end of the Carretera Austral. This section of the road is particularly marked by hundreds of waterfalls. We will sleep in the Villa and take photos at the sign marking the end of the road.
We will retrace our steps to Cochrane, covering 231 km of good gravel roads. We will enjoy the changing landscapes on the return journey. We will spend the night in this city.
We will cross into Argentina through the Roballo Pass, with incredible panoramas, and after 195 km of mountain gravel roads, we will join Route 40 South at Bajo Caracoles. From there, 200 km of impeccable asphalt will take us to our final destination, the city of Gobernador Gregores.
